Kuntao Jiu-Jitsu: Your Guide to Realistic Self Defense and Street Survival

by: Marc Bochner
I recomend this book to any one who is interested in learning to defend themselves or any martial artist looking to expand their arsenol of attacks. I am currently a Nidan(second degree black belt) and the techniques described in this book are very similar to the techniques taught in my system so I know from experience that they work. The techniques in this book are very simple to comprehend therefore I give this book a five star rating.

Brazilian Ju Jitsu Black Belt (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu series)

by: Jean Jacques Machado, Kid Peligro
Another in what has become a rapidly growing series (mostly co-written by Kid Pelligro) from Invisible Cities Press, backed by the same UAE Shiek who holds the ADCC Submission Grappling Championships (now every two years), Jean-Jacques Machado (nephew of Carlos Gracie sr.) turns up this time to share his ideas on sport Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Grappling.

Like his cousin, Royler's, Submission Grappling book, this volume is a HUGE improvement over the first two. Machado starts off by giving his thoughts on competition, everything from his noted 'attacking' style to how to deal with injuries, however the bulk of the book is the big, glossy, full-color photo section, split into two parts: one with the Gi/Kimono, and one without.

Dynamic Ju Jitsu

by: Professor Wally Jay
I guess the only reason I didn't rate this book higher is that I owned "Small Circle Jujitsu" for years, and this is kind of an abridged version of that book. This book sort of gets down to bare basics of the Small Circle style, but provides what may be simpler explainations of the small-circle theory. The pictures are of poor quality, as is the print, but the techniques are OK. Once again, throws and chokes using the gi are featured, with a handful of gi-less techniques. Revival techniques, breakfalls and rolling, and wrist-extention excersises are featured at the beginning of the book.
